How it works.
- You call or use the quote form and tell us your suburb and what the roof needs.
- The job goes to a local roofing business that can price it.
- That business quotes you directly and is responsible for its own licence, insurance and workmanship.
- We don't charge you for the enquiry. Businesses we refer work to may pay us a referral fee.
Before you sign
What to check before you sign a roofing contract.
- QBCC licence. In Queensland, roofing work valued over $3,300 must be done by a contractor holding the relevant QBCC licence: roof tiling for tile work, roof and wall cladding for metal work. Ask for the licence number and check it on the free public register at qbcc.qld.gov.au.
- Roof plumbing. Gutter, flashing, valley and box-gutter work is roof plumbing. Ask who holds the licence for that part of the job.
- Written contract. A contract is a legal requirement for work valued over $3,300. For work over $20,000 you should receive the QBCC Consumer Building Guide before signing.
- Deposit. Generally no more than 20 percent for work up to $3,300, 10 percent from $3,301 to $19,999, and 5 percent at $20,000 or more.
- Home Warranty cover. Eligible residential work over $3,300 generally needs Queensland Home Warranty Scheme cover, and you should receive a Notice of Cover.
- Insurance. Ask for a current certificate of currency for public liability insurance, and for workers compensation if the business uses staff.
- Quote and warranty. Get an itemised written quote that lists the scope, exclusions and payment stages, with the workmanship warranty and the product warranty in writing.
- Approval. A full reroof or a tile-to-Colorbond conversion may need a building certifier to check whether approval is required before work starts.
